Coronavirus Updates: 66 new confirmed cases push total infections to 1,029 in Kenya

Kenya’s total coronavirus infections have passed the 1,000 mark after 66 more people tested positive in the last 24 hours, ,the highest number confirmed so far. According to Health CS Mutahi Kagwe, the fresh Covid-19 confirmed cases have now pushed the total number of infections in the country to 1,029. Addressing the media at Afya House on Wednesday, Kagwe revealed that 64 of the new virus patients are Kenyans, while the remaining two are foreign nationals. The CS said that 30 of the cases were recorded in Mombasa while 26 were in Nairobi with the areas of major concern being Likoni and Changamwe in Mombasa. “Mombasa continues to be a challenge, in order to contain further spread of the virus, there shall be an extension of the cessation of movement in Old Town until June 6. Eastleigh and Old Town to remain under lockdown

The government has extended the cessation of movement into and out of Eastleigh and Old Town areas in Nairobi and Mombasa respectively till June 6, 2020. Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said in addition to this, hawking remains prohibited in the two neigbourhoods, while restaurants, malls, eateries will remain closed for the duration until the new directed date. “In order to contain further spread of the virus the National Emergency Response Committee (NERC) on coronavirus announces and directs as follows; an extension of the cessation of movement in and out of Eastleigh in Nairobi and Old Town in Mombasa until June 6, 2020,” Mr Kagwe said. Aga Khan University Hospital to conduct free Covid-19 tests on inpatients

Aga Khan University Hospital has announced plans to conduct free Covid-19 tests on their inpatients. The hospital has said that the tests will be conducted with the aim of providing a safe environment to members of the staff and patients. “This will enable us determine the best approach to care for our patients including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) during their stay in the hospital hence enhance the safety of patients and caregivers,” the hospital said in a statement on Wednesday. The hospital further revealed that it has been screening all patients who visit the facility with the aim of curbing the spread of the deadly coronavirus that has been termed as an epidemic by the World Health Organisation (WHO). Other measures the hospital has undertaken include ensuring that all the people who enter the facility wear face masks and sanitize their hands. Only three pregnant women have been recorded as Covid-19 positive in Kenya

Only three pregnant women have been recorded to have contracted Covid-19 since it was first reported in the country in March, Health Director General Patrick Amoth has said. Dr Amoth said that fortunately, so far no deaths have been reported from the three. HIGH RISK Pregnant women are among the people put under high risk due to their low immunity system. “We reported three cases of pregnant women with Covid-19, but no fatalities.” Dr Amoth said on Wednesday. B-Club on Sunday published a social media post welcoming back Felix Orinda, popularly known as DJ Evolve, who was reportedly shot by Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino in January. In an Instagram post, the management said it can’t wait to see DJ Evolve on the decks once the ban on social gatherings is lifted. Late last month, Babu Owino – real name Paul Ongili – said DJ Evolve has already been discharged from hospital and was waiting to be taken home. “DJ Evolve has been discharged from the hospital, he is just waiting to be taken home.
